This is the first book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series, an epic tale of heroes and villains that has become a phenomenon on a global scale, and this fantasy adventure is the book that started it all. Fans of the Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Sword in the Stone series by T.H. White, the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini, and the Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin will adore this book.

There is definitely a melancholic feel to this book and I felt like I was watching an old movie where you know that there isn’t going to be a happy ending. Miss Peregrine didn’t reveal much of her character as she does in the movie. We don’t get to read a lot about her to be honest, and she was the one person I expected to see more of. Not just at the beginning, but all the way through.
The first novel was published in 1986, but Rogue Crew was not released until 2011, after the author’s death. Redwall is one of Time’s 100 best fantasy books. Jacques also wrote the Tribes of Redwall trilogy and five solo novels set in the Redwall realm. He is well recognized for the Castaways series. It is teen/YA fantasy action/adventure and science fiction.

Miss Peregrine's Home's strength was always in its sense of atmosphere, and while Jean is a very talented artist, her skills are more with the human figure and less with backgrounds the paneling and atmosphere. This might sound a bit strange, but I feel like an artist with more solid lines would've been a better choice with this particular novel. Also, I think the story lost a lot of its charm when abbreviated for the graphic novel format.
This is insulting a person over her own opinions she vocalized on a site dedicated to reader reviews. It is bullying, and I don't have to put up with it. When Kate Klimo’s three sons were young, she found a geode in one of their sock drawers and it inspired her to write this book. During her spare time, Kate works as a children’s book author and publisher. She and her family, which includes her husband Harry, three horses, and a grandcat, reside in the hills of upstate New York. The darkness is spreading, destroying much of the country’s beauty.

I could have used more explanation about the wights and hollows too. Have you ever played that game where one person starts a story and stops mid-sentence and the next person in the circle has to pick up the story? That's how reading this book felt, only instead of jumping from disjointed person to person, it jumps from disjointed photograph to photograph. I also really enjoyed the pictures that were strategically placed throughout the book.
I was really hoping with this book that we wouldn't have a romance, and based on the write-up, I assumed it would avoid this all-too-common YA trope. But no, we have to have a romantic couple in here, because we have to do something to draw in the preteen and teen Twilight crowd. I mean, it's not like there are girls out there who like Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and stuff for more than just the sexy times. I guess if A) Jacob had been likeable, B) Emma had been likeable and not been his grandfather's age, and C) the romance had been well-done and not rushed I would have liked it, but alas, it was D) none of the above. I didn't want to reread Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children because I remembered almost everything from this novel. But I did want to get back into the story so that I could continue with Hollow City.
